Private AI Home Assistant Installation in Rio de Janeiro
Kotoh Home designs and commissions private AI home assistants in Rio de Janeiro and its mountain retreats for Estate projects. We start by video, specify everything to Brazilian standards, and fly in to commission it.
For Estate projects in Rio and the mountains
Many Rio households live between an apartment in the South Zone, in Leblon, Ipanema or São Conrado, or a house in Barra da Tijuca, and a retreat in the mountains above the city. We take these on as Estate projects. We don't have an office in Brazil. We do a video walk-through, design the system, and fly in to commission it.
Heat, humidity and a long rainy season
Rio has a tropical climate with long periods of heavy rain between December and March. Summers are hot and stormy: temperatures over 40 °C can happen through the warmer half of the year, and humidity can push the "feels-like" temperature far higher. For a home, that means air conditioning and dehumidification doing real work, and real damage if they fail while nobody's there. The assistant tells you when indoor temperature or humidity drifts out of range, when a water sensor trips, or when the power drops, and it can run climate and shades on a schedule so the apartment is ready when you arrive.
Storm risk in the mountain region
The mountains that make the region beautiful also make it vulnerable. In January 2011, floods and mudslides in the state's mountain region, in towns including Nova Friburgo, Teresópolis and Petrópolis, killed at least 916 people. In a single 24-hour period, more rain fell than is normally expected for the whole month. In Petrópolis, the Itaipava district, an area with many luxury vacation homes, reported most of the town's casualties, and electricity, water and phone service were all disrupted.
No home system replaces official warnings or evacuation orders. What it can do is make sure you know what's happening at a house you're not in: rising water in a basement, a lost power supply, an open door, a generator that didn't start. The hub keeps routines running locally, a battery backup keeps the hub and network up through short outages, and the assistant reports back as soon as the connection returns.
Built to Brazilian standards
Brazil's plug standard is NBR 14136, used in both 127-volt and 220-volt regions, at 60 Hz. Older homes can still have other socket types, and many houses lack a proper earth even where three-pin sockets exist. So we specify equipment sold for the Brazilian market, and a licensed electrician checks the wiring before anything is connected.
What we set up
- A private assistant you text from WhatsApp or iMessage, connected to calendars, email and every house.
- Climate, water and power monitoring with alerts and automatic water shutoff.
- Staff and guest access for caretakers, housekeepers and drivers, each limited to what they need, with a log.
- A hardened network with smart devices kept apart from your computers.
How a project in Rio de Janeiro runs
- Video walk-through. We look at the house, your devices, the network and how the household runs, and agree on what the assistant should handle.
- Design and specification. We specify equipment made for the local market, the network, and any electrical work, then send a fixed quote that includes travel.
- Local work, to our spec. Where local rules require it, the physical installation and any electrical work are done by a locally licensed installer or electrician working to our specification. Work-visa and permit rules vary by country, and we confirm what applies before we quote.
- Commissioning visit. We configure and commission the hub, the AI computer and the network, connect your devices and accounts, and train the household and staff.
- Care. Updates, monitoring and new routines continue remotely under your care plan; on-site visits are quoted when needed.
Where your data lives
Every install puts a smart-home hub in the house, running your devices and routines locally. For clients in Rio de Janeiro we generally recommend Private Home: the AI runs on a dedicated computer in your home, so your household's requests are processed there and nothing goes to a cloud AI service. Private Cloud, our lower-cost tier, uses a private server in a U.S. data center. If you want your data to stay in Brazil, choose Private Home. Data-protection rules apply in many countries; we aren't lawyers and don't advise on them, so your own advisers should confirm what applies to you.
Pricing
Projects in Rio de Janeiro are Estate projects, quoted individually in U.S. dollars after the walk-through, with travel in the quote. For reference, Private Home starts at $24,995 for a single home, with care at $399 a month. See estates and house managers for what an Estate project covers.
To begin, request a video walk-through on our contact form or email hello@kotohhome.com. We reply within one business day.
Common questions
Do you work in Rio de Janeiro?
Yes, for Estate projects, including homes in the mountain region. We start with a video walk-through, design the system, and travel to commission it. Where local rules require it, installation and electrical work are done by a locally licensed installer or electrician to our specification. Pricing is in U.S. dollars.
Will US devices work in Brazil?
Not reliably, so we don't use them. Brazil's plug standard is NBR 14136, and both 127-volt and 220-volt supplies are used, at 60 Hz. We specify equipment sold for the Brazilian market, and a licensed electrician checks the wiring first.
What does it do during the rainy season?
It watches the house. Water and humidity sensors, power and internet alerts, and a summary after a storm of what changed. The hub keeps local routines running even when the internet is down.
Can my data stay in Brazil?
With Private Home, the AI runs on a computer in your house, so your household's requests are processed there. Private Cloud uses a server in a U.S. data center. If keeping data in the country matters to you, choose Private Home. We don't give legal advice on data rules.
Can it cover a beach apartment and a house in Petrópolis?
Yes. An Estate project can cover several properties, each with its own hub, with one assistant you text about any of them.
