The city in a forest

Atlanta has the densest urban tree coverage of any major city in the United States, which is why it's often called "The City in a Forest." Around the high-rise districts of Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead, many of the city's 242 neighborhoods are leafy and low-density. The canopy is a big part of the city's appeal. It also means that thunderstorms, wind and ice bring limbs down onto power lines.

Winter is usually mild, but ice storms cause more trouble than snow when they come; the January 7, 1973 and January 9, 2011 storms are among the worst on record. In September 2024, Hurricane Helene's remnants brought flooding that entered at least 200 structures in the Atlanta area.

What we set up for Atlanta homes

• Outage alerts when grid power drops, with a battery backup for the hub and router so your rules keep running.
• Generator status if you have one, including whether it started and how long it has run.
• Freeze protection for the rare hard cold: sensors near pipes, crawl spaces and exterior walls, with a text before the danger point.
• Water sensors in basements and crawl spaces, by the water heater and under sinks, with an automatic shutoff valve if you add one.
• Daily life by text. Calendars, school pickups, "lock up at 11" and "is the garage closed?" for the whole family.

How remote setup works

After a video walk-through, we ship a hub configured for your home. You connect it to your router, and we link your existing devices, accounts and family texting on a video call. If you want new devices that involve wiring or plumbing, your electrician or plumber installs them to our spec, or we quote a travel install. Larger homes with outbuildings or detached garages may need a stronger network, which we plan during the walk-through.

A typical Atlanta setup

For a house on a wooded lot, a typical plan includes the hub with battery backup, an outdoor-rated access point if there's a detached garage or guest house, temperature sensors in the crawl space and coldest rooms, leak sensors at the water heater and laundry, and a connected thermostat. Add a generator connection if you have one. The result is a house that tells you when a storm took out the power, whether the backup came on, and when everything is back to normal.

Private Cloud starts at $4,995, with a $199-a-month care plan that includes your private AI server. That is the tier we set up remotely. Private Home, with a dedicated AI computer in your house that works fully offline, starts at $24,995 with care at $399 a month; in Atlanta it is a travel install, and travel is quoted with the project at cost. Privacy

The hub stays in your house and runs locally. Private Cloud's assistant uses an open-source model on a private server we operate for you in a U.S. data center, with no conversation logs and no training on your data. Private Home keeps everything inside the house.
