Private AI Home Assistant Installation in Lisbon
Kotoh Home designs and commissions private AI home assistants in Lisbon for Estate projects. We start by video, specify everything to Portuguese standards, and fly in to commission the system.
For Estate projects in Lisbon
We offer Lisbon as Estate projects: larger homes, multiple properties, or households with staff. Many of the people who ask split their year between Lisbon and somewhere else, and want one assistant that knows every house. We don't have a Lisbon office. We do a video walk-through, design the system, and fly in to commission it.
Built to Portuguese standards
Portugal's supply is 230 volts at 50 Hz, with Type C and F sockets, so nothing comes over from the United States. We specify hubs, sensors, thermostats and lighting control sold for the European market. Radio matters too: Z-Wave devices sold in Europe use the 868 to 869 MHz band, while North American ones use 908 to 916 MHz, so a US sensor won't talk to a European hub. We buy locally specified equipment and design the system around it.
Old buildings, rebuilt to shake
Lisbon's center carries its history in its walls. The earthquake of 1 November 1755, estimated at magnitude 7.7 or greater, combined with fires and a tsunami to almost completely destroy the city. The lower town was rebuilt under the Marquis of Pombal in what became the Baixa Pombalina, using an early anti-seismic method: a flexible wooden frame set inside the walls, floors and roofs, designed to shake without falling. Alfama, the oldest district, survived the earthquake and keeps its older fabric.
For a smart home, those buildings push the design in a sensible direction. We favor wireless and battery-powered sensors, lighting control that works with existing switch positions, and networking that doesn't need new channels cut into old walls. Where a change might touch the building itself, check with the relevant authorities before work starts. We design around what's allowed.
Heat, and a house that's often empty
Lisbon's climate is mild most of the year, but summers can be hot: August highs typically run from 25 to 32 °C, and the city recorded 44.0 °C on 4 August 2018. For a home that sits empty for weeks at a time, the assistant watches what matters. It can alert you if indoor temperature or humidity drifts out of range, if a water sensor trips, or if the power drops, and it can run shades and climate on a schedule so the house is comfortable when you land.
What we set up
- A private assistant you text from iMessage or WhatsApp, connected to your calendars, email and the house.
- Climate, water and security: EU-spec thermostats, water sensors with automatic shutoff, door and window sensors, and alerts when the house is empty.
- Staff and guest access for a house manager, housekeeper or caretaker, limited to what each person needs, with a log of who did what.
- A hardened network with smart devices kept apart from your computers.
How a project in Lisbon runs
- Video walk-through. We look at the house, your devices, the network and how the household runs, and agree on what the assistant should handle.
- Design and specification. We specify equipment made for the local market, the network, and any electrical work, then send a fixed quote that includes travel.
- Local work, to our spec. Where local rules require it, the physical installation and any electrical work are done by a locally licensed installer or electrician working to our specification. Work-visa and permit rules vary by country, and we confirm what applies before we quote.
- Commissioning visit. We configure and commission the hub, the AI computer and the network, connect your devices and accounts, and train the household and staff.
- Care. Updates, monitoring and new routines continue remotely under your care plan; on-site visits are quoted when needed.
Where your data lives
Every install puts a smart-home hub in the house, running your devices and routines locally. For clients in Lisbon we generally recommend Private Home: the AI runs on a dedicated computer in your home, so your household's requests are processed there and nothing goes to a cloud AI service. Private Cloud, our lower-cost tier, uses a private server in a U.S. data center. If you want your data to stay in Portugal, choose Private Home. Data-protection rules apply in many countries; we aren't lawyers and don't advise on them, so your own advisers should confirm what applies to you.
Pricing
Projects in Lisbon are Estate projects, quoted individually in U.S. dollars after the walk-through, with travel in the quote. For reference, Private Home starts at $24,995 for a single home, with care at $399 a month. See estates and house managers for what an Estate project covers.
To begin, request a video walk-through on our contact form or email hello@kotohhome.com. We reply within one business day.
Common questions
Do you work in Lisbon?
Yes, for Estate projects. We start with a video walk-through, design the system, and travel to Lisbon to commission it. Where local rules require it, installation and electrical work are done by a locally licensed installer or electrician to our specification. Pricing is in U.S. dollars.
Will my US devices work in Portugal?
No, and we don't use them. Portugal runs on 230 volts at 50 Hz with Type C and F sockets. Z-Wave devices also use a different radio band in Europe (868 to 869 MHz) than in North America (908 to 916 MHz), so we specify equipment sold for the European market.
Can you work in an older Lisbon building?
Usually, because most of what we install is wireless and battery powered. In historic buildings we avoid cutting into walls and plan around the existing switch positions. Any change to the building itself should be checked with the relevant authorities first.
Can my data stay in Portugal?
With Private Home, the AI runs on a computer in your house, so your household's requests are processed there. Private Cloud uses a server in a U.S. data center. If keeping data in the country matters to you, choose Private Home. We don't give legal advice on data rules.
Can one assistant cover my Lisbon home and a home in the US?
An Estate project can cover several properties. We plan how each home's hub works and how the assistant reaches them during the walk-through.
