Private AI Home Assistant Installation in Paris
Kotoh Home installs private AI home assistants in Paris for Estate projects, most often in Haussmann-era apartments where the building has its own rules. We design and configure the system, then fly in to commission it.
For Estate projects in Paris
We take on Paris homes as Estate projects: large apartments, hôtels particuliers and pieds-à-terre that are part of a household with homes in several countries. We don't have an office in France. We do a video walk-through, design and configure the system before we travel, and fly in to commission it. Where local rules require it, the physical installation and any electrical work are done by a locally licensed electrician working to our specification, and we confirm work-permit requirements before we quote.
Built to French standards
France uses 230-volt, 50 Hz power with Type C and Type E sockets. We specify French-market hubs, sensors, thermostats and lighting control, and Z-Wave devices on the European 868 MHz band. Nothing is carried over from a US home.
Haussmann apartments and the copropriété
Much of central Paris was rebuilt between 1853 and 1870 under Baron Haussmann, and his stone apartment buildings, with their tall windows and balconies, are still the city's signature. Most of them are copropriétés: each apartment is a private lot that also owns a share of the building's common parts, under a law dating from July 1965, with decisions on common parts made by the co-owners in general assembly and carried out by a syndic.
That suits the way we work. Almost everything we install is wireless and sits inside your apartment: sensors, lighting control that uses existing switch positions, smart thermostatic radiator valves, and a network sized for thick stone walls. Anything that touches the facade, the stairwell or shared wiring generally needs the building's approval, so check with your syndic before we plan it, and we'll design around their answer. Nothing we put in is visible from the street.
Heat waves
Paris summers have become a real risk. In the 2003 European heat wave, France recorded 14,802 heat-related deaths, mostly among older people. On 25 July 2019, Paris reached 42.6°C, breaking a record that had stood since 1947. For a family with an older relative in Paris, or an apartment that sits empty in August, that changes what's worth automating:
- Room temperature alerts to you, or to a family member, when a room passes a threshold you set.
- Shutters and blinds that close in the morning to keep the heat out, where your shutters are motorized.
- Cooling on a schedule, so the apartment is comfortable before anyone arrives.
- A daily check-in: "Is everything normal at the apartment?" answered in one text.
What we set up
- A private assistant you text from iMessage or WhatsApp, connected to your calendars, email and the apartment.
- Climate, leaks and security, with alerts when the apartment is empty.
- Staff and guest access for a gardien, housekeeper or house manager, limited and logged.
- A hardened network, with smart devices kept apart from your computers.
Where your data lives
Every install puts a smart-home hub in the home, running your devices and routines locally. For Paris clients we recommend Private Home: the AI runs on a dedicated computer in your apartment, so your household's requests are processed there and nothing goes to a cloud AI service. Private Cloud, our lower-cost tier, uses a private server in a U.S. data center. If your data needs to stay in France, choose Private Home. We don't advise on data protection rules.
Pricing
Paris projects are Estate projects, quoted individually in U.S. dollars after the walk-through, with travel included in the quote. For reference, Private Home starts at $24,995 for a single home, with care at $399 a month. See estates and house managers for what an Estate project covers.
To begin, request a video walk-through on our contact form or email hello@kotohhome.com. We reply within one business day.
Common questions
Do you work in Paris?
Yes, for Estate projects. We start with a video walk-through, design and configure the system, then travel to Paris to commission it. Where local rules require it, the physical installation and electrical work are done by a locally licensed electrician to our specification. Travel is quoted with the project, in U.S. dollars.
Will the devices work in France?
France uses 230-volt, 50 Hz power with Type C and Type E sockets. We specify French-market devices, and Z-Wave models on the European 868 MHz band rather than US versions.
Do I need my building's permission?
For anything inside your apartment that is wireless, usually not. Work that touches the building's common parts, such as the facade, the stairwell or shared wiring, generally needs the co-owners' approval. Check with your syndic before we plan that kind of work.
Can it help during a heat wave?
Yes. Temperature sensors in each room can alert you when it gets too hot, and the assistant can close shutters or blinds in the morning and run cooling on a schedule, where your equipment supports it.
Can my data stay in France?
With Private Home, the AI runs on a computer in your apartment, so your household's requests are processed there. Private Cloud uses a server in a U.S. data center. If keeping data in France matters to you, we recommend Private Home. We don't give legal advice on data rules.
